So I dropped my daughter off at school this morning as I typically do on a Friday. On my way to the office, I found myself going to a “bad place” because my allergies were bothering me, my back was irritated and I was working off very little sleep. Then I came across something that completely changed my state and my perspective at that moment.
I was the first car at the stop light just down the street from the office. Walking in the crosswalk directly in front of me was a young boy, no more than ten or eleven years old. He had a backpack on that look like it weighed a hundred pounds. He was carrying a large, woman’s purse as well. It took a second for me to notice, but the truly amazing and beautiful thing was, that on his right arm, he clutched an older women, perhaps his mother, as he helped guide her across the street. In her right hand was a cane, used by the blind to aid them in walking.
I didn’t know whether to cry or to smile. Anyway, it did prompt me to think about how special our health is and how we often take the gift of good health for granted. I reminded myself that we should all think of our health and bodies as precious gifts and do our very best to take care of them. Amazing what a quick jolt of perspective can do to one’s state of mind. Be thankful for the gifts we have and take good care of them. You never know what tomorrow will bring… so be good to yourselves. Be good to your bodies. You will appreciate it later in life… and so will your family.
