I started my career in real estate 30 years ago. In 1986, there was no voice mail, no fax machines, no laptops, no MLS database, no Internet, and no GPS. I don’t mean to date myself but it’s just the plain truth. It’s amazing how all those things have shaped business over the years. All these tools and resources have allowed us to do more business, more quickly and more efficiently. I must say, I do miss the “belly to belly” part of our business. We just don’t engage in that fashion like we used to. We continually hear about the incoming “millennial” generation and how they are changing the landscape. Information is so readily available these days and comes in massive amounts. The brick-and-mortar office has become a rarity as most business today can be conducted at a Starbucks. Is all this good? Well, I suppose that is subject to interpretation. The older, retired couple still insists on getting their information from the daily newspaper. Kids today don’t even know what a newspaper is. Change is everywhere whether you like it or not. Computer eyewear, driverless cars, and virtual reality are here. Heck, I didn’t even know what a blog was ten years ago. My thought is we can be intimidated by all the technological advances or we can embrace them as a way of life. Either way, what is happening around us is pretty darn remarkable. I recently viewed a commercial from Corning which made me smile in amazement. This is our reality. Check it out. … and while watching it, imagine how all these things will change our business and how we live.
Have a great weekend.
