Last night, I was going through some of my books. As I was perusing, I found this great passage from author Richard L. Evans. He was a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (I happen to be Catholic but I always appreciate a good writer even if we don’t share the same religious beliefs):
“Often we worry about arriving at an end, with too little faith in what follows. In any year, in any day, we are given to worrying about much that has happened, much that hasn’t happened, much that doesn’t happen. With problems, with disappointments, and sometimes in sorrow, the question comes to troubled hearts: “What am I going to do now?” The answer inevitably is, continue to do what needs to be done, what can be done, to do the necessary things, and have the faith to know that life will unfold, as it always has, as it continues to do. “Where one door shuts, another opens…” — and we have to have the faith to move through the open door and face the facts.”
Richard L. Evans
It got me to thinking. Ever have a serious health issue? Ever lose someone close to you? Ever had serious financial strain? Ever look head on into a tragic circumstance? Ever find yourself asking, “How am I going to handle this challenge?
Some people look at the unknown ahead and see monsters lurking at the end of the world. Others look at the unknown future and see a brave new world, ready for the discovery. Some never open a door, fearful of what may lurk behind it, while others swing that closed door open wildly, ready to greet adventure, come what may.
Many of you have shared your personal challenges with me. As I’ve said many times, how you deal with a challenge determines who you are. I know sometimes it’s hard to realize but you are growing during these times. AND GROWTH IS A BEAUTIFUL THING!
Have a great weekend!
