How many of us lose our patience because we haven’t got time to listen to what others have to say in our busy; hurried lives?
I feel we have less time now than when I was growing up. We tend to focus on the wrong things. The world is moving quickly and in order to keep pace we have to move with it. Of course it doesn’t help those who aren’t moving at our pace.
When we feel anxious, unhappy, or worried about something we tend to be less patient. Do we see ourselves as being the impatient ones, or do we just see other people being the difficult ones? I believe circumstances can influence the way we feel about ourselves and about others. When we are less happy, we will be more impatient towards other people. We can all very easily lose sight of the importance of patience.
So how do we learn the art of being patient? Luckily being patient is something that we can all nurture and cultivate. I believe it is important for us to go back to basics and work on the assumption that things will inevitably take time to complete. We should learn to be more accepting of the things that need time, instead of wanting to rush jobs through just so that they’re finished.
Do you find that impatient people tend to want things done yesterday? They certainly don’t like to waste time in getting the job done, but whilst they work on that, they’re actually forgetting to enjoy the experience that goes with it. Working on a project, however long that project takes is an experience in itself. How much more gratifying is it, to know that it’s because we didn’t rush the project that we actually enjoyed it more.
Obviously when it comes to family, patience is important. It’s the backbone or foundation to a happy childhood. Parents that aren’t patient, usually find bringing their children up a constant chore. They’ll also be more likely to give up on their relationships.
Just like we manage to accept what we set out to achieve, we also need to accept that we sometimes have to wait for some of those outcomes. We don’t always have our answers straight away.
That of course takes time, but so too does the art of being patient. I honestly believe that once we’ve learned how to achieve it, we’ll go on to replicate success in so many areas of our lives.
Have a great weekend!
