This weekend we celebrate Father’s Day. On this day, we honor our fathers and remember the fathers who are no longer with us. We grow up thinking our father is our hero, immortal beings who fear nothing, accept any challenge and are like “life’s compass”, always pointing you in the right direction.
Growing up, my father was indeed, heroic. He was like the sun. You could count on him to be there every day. Even if you couldn’t see him, you knew he was there ready to warm your life when needed. He wasn’t the kind of father that you could count on for a big, comforting hug and he didn’t utter the words, “I love you” very often but you knew he did. He demonstrated that through his actions and his deeds. I knew it through watching his work effort and in always doing what he could to provide the best for our family. I saw it in the way he treated my mother, and as a child, it meant the world to me. He lead by example and was very deliberate in allowing me to take on life’s challenges alone, so that I would acquire a skill set that would last me a lifetime.
This weekend we celebrate fatherhood. If you find yourself missing your father this weekend, you should take solace in knowing that he certainly watches over you. Your father never leaves you. Even when they are gone, the memories you have will stay with you always.
To all of the fathers out there… Happy Father’s Day.
Have a great weekend.
