Ever notice how much harder it is to get out of bed early on a work day? Likewise, do you notice how excited we are, no matter how early the alarm goes off, when we are going on vacation or in my case, headed to an early tee time? The other morning… on a work day, I awoke at about 4:30am and found myself quickly getting out of bed and was excited about the very intense work day ahead. It was not the typical work day I was heading into; rather it was a day full of critical tasks, extreme challenges and a day that would require many tactical decisions. Apparently, that excites me because I couldn’t wait to take on the day.
It got me to thinking. Things are so much easier when we are excited about what’s ahead. Now I realize I may be stating the obvious. I mean… is anyone ever excited about going to the DMV… other than on your 16th birthday? You hear it over and over but it really is all about your perspective. Even a day filled with daunting tasks, meetings you are dreading and errands all over town can be viewed in the right perspective that may get you excited about it. “I’m so excited about getting this day behind me… I will feel satisfied and accomplished when it’s all over.” Recently, my daughter asked me to help her with a school project that was no easy task. It would require a good 2-3 hour investment of time. I gave the patented “sigh” that the parent gives when these projects are thrown our way. Once she told me it was sort of a competition, I got a little excited. I was now motivated and excited by competition to complete this project and dang it… I was going to win.
Easier said than done? I’m just suggesting that you make an attempt to shift your perspective in order to get a little excited about the project… whatever that may be. Go ahead… give it a shot.
