“This too shall pass.” Ever heard that before? I’ve heard that quite a bit over the past 15 months. I mean, our place of business has been shut down for the past 15 months. Those first few months looked pretty bleak and everyone had a lot of questions… about everything. It was pretty scary for certain and the uncertainty had all of us feeling very uncomfortable. Game over, right? Hell no! We adapted, we innovated and we found new ways to give our customers what they want and what they need. We collaborated, worked together as an industry, operated effectively as an organization and rallied around each other as an office. The results are in, and over the last 15 months, we have set records in every measurable category. We got through it and for the most part… this too, had indeed passed.
And now, we start the process of opening up, beginning the next chapter. The economy is improving and the frenzied, Silicon Valley real estate market continues to show no signs of slowing down. Everything is GREAT! Well… at the risk of sounding a little cynical, “This too shall pass.”
Things can change from good to bad as fast as they can change from bad to good. It’s just the peaks and valleys of life and the cyclical realities of markets and economies. So, the questions I have for you are these: What are you doing to prepare for the changes coming our way? How are you positioning your business to become recession proof? What disciplines and accountabilities are you instilling each day to ensure your future success?
I can vividly remember when the great recession came in 2007, hearing things like. “I wish I had seen this coming.” “I should have spent less and saved more.” Or the classic, “I should have known that everything would change at some point.”
Look, I’m no savant but I can tell you… this too shall pass. Economies change, markets change, industries change. How do you view the inevitable changes that are coming and what are you doing today to prepare for it?
We should all take a breath and be very proud of ourselves having navigated a very tough challenge over the last year and a half. Acknowledge your successes and your victories… no matter how small.
But… now is the time to shift your thinking toward what tomorrow will bring and what you can be doing to get the most from it.
Have a great weekend everyone.
