As we head into the weekend, I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge two important occasions that happen to fall side by side this year: Juneteenth and Father’s Day.
At first glance, these holidays may seem unrelated. One commemorates a pivotal moment in our nation’s history, marking the end of slavery in the United States and celebrating the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity. The other is a day set aside to recognize fathers and father figures who have shaped our lives through their guidance, sacrifice, and support.
The more I thought about it, however, the more I realized that both holidays share something important in common.
They remind us that the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy today did not simply appear on their own. They were earned through courage, perseverance, sacrifice, and a commitment to creating a better future for those who would follow.
Many of us can point to someone who helped shape our character. For some, it was a father. For others, it may have been a grandfather, mother, coach, teacher, mentor, or friend. These individuals taught us lessons that extended far beyond the classroom or workplace. They taught us about responsibility. About integrity. About treating others with dignity and respect. About showing up when it matters and doing the right thing, even when nobody is watching.
Those same principles are what allow communities, businesses, and families to thrive.
As we recognize Juneteenth, let us take a moment to reflect on the progress that has been made, while also appreciating the work that remains in building a society where opportunity exists for everyone.
As we celebrate Father’s Day, let us express gratitude to the people who invested in us, believed in us, and helped us become who we are today.
I hope each of you finds time this weekend to enjoy family, create memories, reflect on what matters most, and appreciate the people who have influenced your journey.
Thank you for everything you do for Intero and for one another.
Happy Juneteenth and Happy Father’s Day.
