This week, I want to talk about something I’m asked fairly often: “What do you recommend that I read, watch, or listen to that can help me grow my business?”
I’m always thrilled when someone asks me that question, for two reasons. First, it shows a desire to grow and an awareness that success leaves clues. Second, it tells me there’s a level of trust in my perspective, and I don’t take that lightly.
Forty years ago, when I was a brand-new agent trying to find my footing, my classroom was my car. I relied on a cassette player and stacks of tapes, listening to voices like Jim Rohn, Tommy Hopkins, and Walter Sanford. One of my favorites was Power Talk, hosted by Mike Ferry. Those voices helped shape my mindset, my discipline, and ultimately my career.
Fast forward four decades, and many agents have never touched a cassette tape. We’ve come a long way. Today, books are available in audio format. Live events can be streamed from anywhere without airports, hotels, or missed family time. Podcasts and YouTube channels offer an endless supply of content, whether you’re focused on mindset, tactical skills, or becoming a truly high-performing salesperson. No matter where you are in your career, there is something valuable available to you every single day.
While I no longer broker transactions in my current leadership role, I still try to approach each day wearing my “agent hat.” I never want to lose touch with the fundamentals that drive this business, and I still learn constantly. With that in mind, here are a few resources I genuinely value.
On YouTube, Chris Voss’s Negotiation Mastery channel is outstanding. While not specific to real estate, his background as a former FBI hostage negotiator brings a unique and highly practical perspective to communication and negotiation. His principles apply beautifully to our business.
Another excellent channel is BiggerPockets. If investing is part of your vision, or you want it to be, this is one of the best resources available. The depth of content is impressive, and their full library of podcast episodes is available on YouTube as well.
On the podcast side, The Massive Agent Podcast hosted by Dustin Brohm is a strong resource for entrepreneurial agents who want to build a scalable, sustainable business. If you’re feeling burned out, stuck in the grind, or looking for leverage, there’s real value there.
Finally, Tough Things First, hosted by Ray Zinn, focuses on discipline, servant leadership, and long-term entrepreneurial success. It’s thoughtful, grounded, and especially relevant for anyone serious about building something meaningful.
I’ll close with this. No matter where you are in your real estate career, new, seasoned, or somewhere in between, growth is never accidental. The most successful people I know are always searching for better information, sharper thinking, and new perspectives. Make learning a habit. Feed your mind the same way you feed your business. The investment will always pay dividends.
