If the last few weeks have felt a little quieter than usual, you’re probably not imagining it.
There’s a rhythm to our business, and this time of year has always had one of its own. From roughly mid-July through mid-August, people are trying to squeeze everything they can out of summer. Vacations are being taken, trips are wrapping up, families are spending time together, and parents are getting kids ready to head back to school.
Real estate doesn’t stop during this period, but priorities temporarily shift.
And then something happens.
Vacations end. Kids go back to school. Calendars begin returning to normal. And many of the things people put on the back burner during the summer suddenly move back to the front. Including real estate.
There’s a reason September and October are often two of our most productive months of the year.
But here’s the important reminder: Your September/October business is being created RIGHT NOW.
The conversations you have today matter. The past client you reconnect with matters. The follow-up call you’ve been meaning to make matters. The homeowner who tells you, “We’re probably going to wait until after summer,” matters.
Sometimes we make the mistake of allowing the pace of the market to determine the pace of our effort. When things feel busy, we get busy. When things feel quiet, it becomes very easy to get quiet ourselves.
I’d encourage you to do the opposite.
Use the quieter moments to prepare. Reconnect with your database. Have conversations without immediately worrying about where they might lead. Work on your skills. Clean up your pipeline. Make plans. Plant seeds.
Because one of the great lessons I’ve learned in this business is that there’s often a significant gap between when the work is done and when the reward shows up.
So, if business has felt a little calmer recently, don’t confuse a quiet season with a bad season.
Think of it as the calm before the storm.
September and October are coming.
The question is: What are you doing today to make sure you’re ready for them?
