Imagine for a moment that you could sit down and have a conversation with yourself one year from today.
It’s October 2027. You have the benefit of looking back at everything you’ve accomplished, every opportunity you’ve pursued, and every decision you’ve made over the past 12 months.
Now imagine that future version of yourself could offer you just one piece of advice.
What do you think it would be?
Would that person thank you for the decisions you’re making today? For the relationships you’re building, the skills you’re developing, and the discipline you’re demonstrating?
Or would they tell you that you should have started sooner?
It’s an interesting exercise because the truth is, the person you’ll become a year from now is being shaped by the decisions you’re making right now.
As real estate professionals, we spend a tremendous amount of time thinking about the future. Our next transaction, our next listing, our next client, our next opportunity. But sometimes we overlook the most important part of that equation: What are we doing today to create the future we’re hoping for?
We’re approaching the final stretch of 2026, and I know how tempting it can be to start looking toward January as an opportunity for a fresh start. New goals, new resolutions, a renewed commitment to doing things differently.
But here’s something I want you to consider.
January 1st isn’t a starting line. It’s simply another day on the calendar.
The agents who will experience tremendous success in 2027 aren’t necessarily the ones who will make the biggest promises to themselves on New Year’s Day. They’re the ones who are already making the investments in themselves today.
They’re strengthening relationships. They’re reconnecting with clients. They’re developing new skills. They’re embracing technology. They’re doing the things that may not produce an immediate reward but will undoubtedly pay dividends down the road.
And speaking of technology, we’re just days away from providing you access to Maestro, our new technology platform. This is a perfect example of an opportunity to make an investment in your future. You can choose to embrace it, dedicate time to learning it, and discover how it can improve your business. Or you can put it off until tomorrow, next week, or next year.
The choice is yours. But so are the consequences.
I’ve come to appreciate something over the years: Success rarely comes from one extraordinary decision. More often, it’s the accumulation of hundreds of ordinary decisions made consistently over time.
The phone call you make when you don’t feel like making it. The extra effort you put into a client relationship. The hour you spend learning something new instead of doing what’s comfortable. Those seemingly small decisions compound.
So, here’s my challenge to you this week.
Think about where you want to be one year from today. Not just financially, but professionally and personally. Think about the agent you want to become, the business you want to build, and the opportunities you want to create.
Then ask yourself one simple question:
“Am I making decisions today that my future self will thank me for?”
Because one year from now, you’re going to look back at this moment.
And when you do, I hope you can say, with confidence and pride, “I’m glad I started when I did.”
Make your future self proud.
